SPECIAL APPLICATIONS
Monovision
Monovision is a fitting technique utilized to eliminate the need for
reading glasses over contact lenses. Instead of fully correcting both eyes with a distance
contact lens, one eye (usually the non-dominant eye) is corrected primarily for near work.
Although only one eye is doing the majority of the detailed work during any specific task,
this actually works well for most patients! Ask one of our doctors during your exam if
this technique might work for you!
Social/Recreational Use
Although spectacles may work just fine for you in most instances,
there may be occasions where contact lenses may be a better option. Perhaps its only
when you exercise or go out on the town that youd like to ditch those glasses for a
little while! Ask one of our doctors about the many inexpensive options that may be
available to you for situations just like these

TYPES
Soft
Conventional
Although these lenses are
rapidly being replaced by more frequent replacement lenses, in many cases
there’s nothing wrong with a standard soft contact lens that you care for
and will last about a year on average. Although the care is more extensive
in order to make them last, this option has been a viable one for many years
and works well for a lot of patients. Most brands of conventional soft
lenses can be fit and ordered at Eye Contact. These include toric lenses for
astigmatism, colored lenses, and even bifocals!
Disposable
Current technology has
enabled many manufacturers to offer a variety of soft disposable contacts
in different materials, sizes and shapes at affordable prices. This makes
it much easier to fit even more patients successfully in the healthiest
type of soft contact lenses available. From lenses that last a few months,
to lenses that you can replace every day, our doctors can help you
determine the best type of contact lens for your eyes. Torics, colors, and
even bifocals are now available in disposables as well! Come

Rigid Gas
Permeable (RGP)
Although RGPs have been
around for years, they remain the standard in contact lenses as far as
visual acuity, longevity, handling, and ocular health. And with technology
constantly improving with these types of lenses as well, more people are
able to enjoy the benefits of RGPs than ever. If you have astigmatism, are
concerned about your myopia (nearsightedness) increasing every year, or need
bifocals, ask one of our doctors if RGPs might be the best solution for you.
Toric
(for astigmatism)
Most people have some
degree of astigmatism. This is when the front of the eye is not exactly
spherical, so the light passing through it gets separated into two focal
points. Although correcting for this with spectacles is quite simple, if
your astigmatism is great enough, a simple spherical contact lens may not do
the trick. A thorough examination of your eyes will enable one of our
doctors to help you determine the best contact lens to correct your vision.
Toric contact lenses are specially designed to correct for the astigmatism
that a spherical contact lens can’t. These are available in soft
conventional, rigid, and even soft disposable materials. |
